![]() ![]() Eventually the machine does come through and destroys the singularity, then shuts down. The book details how he managed to survive for months in isolation through a rigid schedule, living on candy bars, hardtack, and peanut butter. This means he has to stay in the garage until it comes out, because since time moves much quicker inside the garage if he left for just a few minutes it would be through. He thinks that it is a weapon of war and resolves to stop it. The main character discovers somehow that the singularity links to another universe, and the other universe is trying to send some kind of machine through. That of course means that relatively time moves incredibly fast inside compared to outside. Due to time dilation, whenever you step inside the garage, time slows down greatly on the outside relative to you on the inside, so if you're standing in the garage and look out, things seem to be standing still. Basically, the main character of the book (a teenage boy) somehow discovers a singularity in the sink in something like a garage at the place where he's staying. ![]()
